''Rana temporaria temporaria'' is a largely terrestrial frog native to Europe. It is distributed throughout northern Europe and can be found in Ireland, the Isle of Lewis and as far east as Japan.〔http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/wildfacts/factfiles/483.shtml〕 ==Description== These smooth-skinned frogs can grow to an average weight of 22.7 grams and length of seven to ten centimeters (2.8-3.9 in) with colors varying from gray to green, brown, yellow, or red and may be covered in blotches.〔http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/128297/common-frog〕 Males are usually smaller and darker than females and have nuptial pads on their first fingers to help hold on to the female during mating.
